Royal Zanzibar
The Royal Zanzibar is intended as a palace of indulgence, and so it is with its muted architectural elegance, offering privacy enveloped by an air of serenity.
Wide open spaces and clean, fresh air are luxuries money cannot buy in many a land, but here on a tiny island strewn between African sea and sky, Royal Zanzibar ensures you get plenty of both, even if you choose never to stray far from your villa!
Accommodation
Suites
Located directly on the beachfront are 16 suites each measuring approximately 100sq meters. They face west to catch the ember rays of the fading day.
Lavishly appointed, they are specifically designed to effortlessly merge interior and exterior, blending the clever use of natural materials with the contour of traditional, hardwood Zanzibari style furniture in warm, earthy tones.
Superior Rooms
Each of the 80 Superior Rooms measure approx. 80 sq meters with a choice of King size bed or two Queen size beds and promises everything for the wannabe castaway… The silent, split type Air Condition affords acclimatization.
The rooms feature: Air condition facilities, Mosquito nets, Remote controlled TV with satellite channels and DVD player, Internet connection in each room, Direct dial telephone, In room electronic safe (charge), Mini Bar (charge), Coffee maker.
There is a comfortable sitting area for two people in the room, Large Balcony and sitting arrangement, Spacious bathroom with double bath tub and walk in shower, WC and bidet, Hair dryer, face mirrors, hand basin, modern bathroom with walk in shower, Taylor of London fine toiletries as shower gel, shampoo, soap and bath cap, Electric current 220 AC, Special shaving socket in the bathroom, Scale, Bath robes, slippers, laundry bag and an umbrella placed in the wardrobe.
Villas
Set in a separate tranquil area strewn with coconut palms and white sandy beach. As you approach, a dedicated, private butler opens the heavy, ornately carved Arab door to your private kingdom. As you step behind this stately façade you will encounter a rich interior, lavishly decorated with fine wood and polished brass, the typical flowing lines of Zanzibar furniture displaying touches of classic 19th Century design that blend seamlessly with the exterior contours of its land.
This premier location has 4 villas, each villa measures 362 meter sq. Each house has 2 bedrooms, each with a double bath tub, WC, bidet and a walk in closet. It also includes a large terrace, kitchen and lounge. Each villa has a private pool, Jacuzzi, private deck offering a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean, complemented with butler service.
Activities
A vibrant animation team begin activities early in the morning, continuing throughout the day and well into the evening. The selection of things to do is equally varied for both children and adults. During the day on the beaches, in the swimming pools, or generally around the hotel’s grounds, animators prompt guests to participate in a wide range of fun activities and games such as water aerobics, water polo, beach volleyball, beach football, darts, table tennis and pool table.
In the evenings the team might begin with an early children’s disco party and then continue after dinner to steer you through the daily evening entertainment of traditional dancers, live music or disco dancing boogie nights!
Guided Spice Plantation Tour – Take a guided tour through the fruits of our bounty. Indulge your senses. Discover a treasure trove of heady scents, sights and spices, and then make them yours – cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and turmeric to name but a few. Watch coconut harvesters at work. They climb the tall coconut trees without harness or any protection whatsoever!
Guided tour of historic stone town – a world heritage site that gained its name from the many houses and buildings constructed from coral rock and mortar, a guided walk along its narrow, winding alleys will reveal a town steeped in romance and history.
Zanzibar was the hub of spice and slave trade. Explorers such as Dr. David Livingstone used Zanzibar as their gateway for expeditions into the Dark Continent.

Hello, I am Sally Wanjau, and I have been travelling to Kenya on safari since the 1980’s which led to me living and working there for several years. Married to a Kenyan, it is a place that I now call home. I currently live in the UK with my husband.
