SKAL INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 2017

The sixteenth annual presentation of the Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards has taken place on Friday 6 October 2017 during the Opening Ceremony of the 78th Skål World Congress.

Skål International is an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO and this year has incorporated a special category to award the Sustainable Tourism Destinations on the occasion of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

We were delighted to be notified that in the category of “Tour Operators & Travel Agents”, Gamewatchers Safaris of Kenya was announced as the winner!

Skål is a professional organisation promoting global tourism in over 80 different countries. Its 15,000 members are the tourism industry’s managers and leading executives from all around the world, so this award is made on behalf of the key stakeholders in the international tourism industry.

The Judges were Dr. Harald Zeiss (MD, Institute for Sustainable Tourism & Professor, Hochschule Harz, University of Applied Sciences), Dr. Chris Stone (School of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management Faculty of Business and Law, The Manchester Metropolitan University) & Mr. Geoff Bolan (CEO Sustainable Travel International).

These three distinguished experts in sustainability independently evaluated 47 different organisations from 28 countries according to a series of criteria such as nature preservation, carbon offsetting, climate change mitigation, human rights protection and local employment.
