Visit Olakira Camp
The Serengeti hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in the world, and is home to one of the great wonders of the natural world, the Great Migration. Over a million wildebeest and some 600,000 zebra move through the eco-system, with lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog and crocodiles making sure only the strongest survive. The sheer volume of numbers combined with the daily dramas of life and death make this an unforgettable experience.
Olakira Camp is a classic mobile tented camp that follows the Great Migration through prime wildlife areas in the Serengeti, the land that offers probably the best wildlife spectacle on the planet.
Accommodation
Olakira Camp is an intimate mobile tented camp of 6 guest tents and 2 common area tents. ‘Olakira’ means ‘star’ in Maasai and with its two locations it covers the best areas of the vast Serengeti National Park.
Whilst the mobile nature of Olakira Camp allows it to move to the densest concentrations of wildlife, it manages to surprise with its spaciousness and comfort. Large beds, wide private verandas, convenient bathroom facilities, a great lounge area and wonderful food served under the Serengeti stars ensure total well-being.
A stay in Olakira Camp is not about 5 star luxury though. It’s about something more than that. Being in the middle of this wonderful spectacle, with wild animals roaming around camp at night, is a dream come true to even the most experienced of travelers. The guest tents are spacious and comfortable with large king-size or twin beds and convenient bathrooms. Each tent has its own private verandah with an amazing view overlooking the Serengeti. Bathrooms are extremely comfortable for a mobile camp, with shower, wash basin and an environmentally friendly toilet.
Central to the camp are two common tents that are open to the surrounding nature. When the camp is occupied by multiple small groups, one tent will serve as a dining tent and the other one as a lounge, where drinks are served and safari stories are shared. When a larger group (e.g., 8 people) visits the camp, one of the common tents can be made the exclusive lounging/dining tent for that group. The other tent will then be set up as a lounging/dining tent for the other guests. Fantastic meals are served in the dining tent or in a private location: your own veranda or under the Serengeti stars.
Activities
The Serengeti is renowned for fabulous wildlife viewing. Drives – short trips or full day explorations – give you close encounters with astonishing numbers of animals. Lunch in the bush while enjoying an amazing view and delicious food and wine, is a welcome interruption to otherwise action packed days.
Balloon safaris give you the unique experience of observing the animals, and the Serengeti landscapes from above.
Back in camp, story telling, playing chess, star gazing or simply listening to the great sounds of the bush are some of the activities you can enjoy back in the comfort of the intimate Olakira Camp.
Seasons
Olakira operates as Olakira Mara Camp in the Northern Serengeti near Mara River from June to November. From December to March it moves south to Ndutu near the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.
