Located in the centre of the country, Windhoek the capital of Namibia is the ideal spot to start/end your Namibian adventure. The international airport is about 45km from the city and the drive can take anything from 40 mins+ depending on the time of day & traffic and the smaller Eros Airport is approx. 7km away.

The city is located at 1700 metres above sea level and is surrounded on three sides by mountains, Auas Mountains to the south, Khomas Hochland in the west and the Eros Mountains in the East.

Windhoek is a melting pot of traditional African and European cultures, it gained independence in 1990 and has been described as one of the cleanest capitals in Africa. The city is easy to get around, with a main bustling pedestrian precinct – ideal for a spot of shopping and a drink.

Places to eat out are plentiful with a wide variety of cuisine from international to local delicacies and there are plenty of places of interest if you are keen to embark on some sight-seeing, including several museums, the National Art Gallery, the Tintenpalast Gardens or National Botanical Gardens and excursions can be arranged during your stay in Windhoek.

Hello, I am Sally Wanjau, and I have been travelling to Kenya on safari since the 1980’s which led to me living and working there for several years. Married to a Kenyan, it is a place that I now call home. I currently live in the UK with my husband. For a number of years, I ran my own safari business as an agent working closely with Gamewatchers Safaris creating unique and tailor-made holidays for my clients, and in 2017 I joined Gamewatchers Safaris full-time as one of their dedicated team of Safari Advisers.
